April 14,
2005 Howard Supply Company Dedicates New Wire Rope Shop Over 500 customers, vendors, and guests attended an Open House on April 14th in Bakersfield, California at Howard Supply Company. The event was held to introduce their new 4800 square foot Wire Rope Fabricating Facility. Also on display were their two state of the art Wire Rope Spooling Trucks. The Trucks combine safety, and efficiency to reduce the amount of time a rig is down for a line installation or splice. The use of a hydrostatic pump allows for ample back tension which is critical to line life when it installed onto a sandline drum. Loading and unloading of a spool is accomplished with the same drive that removes or installs the line onto a rig. Controls on the deck of the trucks allow a clear view for the operator, and a level wind allows for “hands off” operation when spooling line back onto the truck. A load cell measures direct tension during line installation to a gauge mounted at the operator control station. The units are powered through a PTO from an International 4300 Truck with a 232” wheelbase. This size vehicle is extremely maneuverable in tight locations that are normal in California oilfields. The Shop includes everything needed to fabricate most types of cable products including wire rope slings, guy lines, chain slings, roll off cables, pumping unit bridles, braided slings, and a multitude of custom requests. The event was attended by current AESC National President Ken Gates and his wife, Sandy, along with AESC Executive Director Kenny Jordan and his wife, Pam.
